The Picture

When one soldier, embittered from his past, finds himself across enemy lines, he must make a life changing decision.
(And a note of caution, there are some very mild scenes of violence, so viewer discretion is advised.)

This was made by Desert Vines Studios.
(On a special note, I did not make this film, but was the editor.)

That was a really good video! Nice job on the acting, editing, everything! A very good video. Thanks so much for sharing it.

I also want to ask if it would be ok if I could send you some links to a couple of cameras I found online. Would you mind giving me your opinion on whether or not they look like good cameras? Also, do you know of any other movie makers that I could possibly contact? Thanks!

In Christ's Service,
Sarah

Sarah, That will be fine. As for other filmmakers, do you mean local or nationwide?

Joshua,
Thanks! Here are the links:

Maybe local for just now. I'd just like to contact several film makers so I can get lots of good tips, suggestions, etc. Instead of 'focusing in' on one person (excuse the pun), I like to talk with several, if that makes sense. :) Thank you for all your help, though!!
I am going to be filming a 'big' movie this summer with a few friends, so I'm gathering as many ideas and whatnot as possible. :)

Thanks for looking at the cameras!

Sarah,
The Canon Gl-1 is a pretty awesome camera, however, you might want to try and get the Canon GL-2 instead. It's a little nicer for about the same price.

The Canon XL-1 and XL-2 are also really good cameras. (I know a lot of churches that use them to film their......um....services..I guess. :)

As for other filmmakers, there aren't too many that I know of that live here. I know the Blodgetts are planning on filming a movie in the summer and you might want to talk to Daniel. You might also want to talk with Rick Holets. He does everything audio for Desert Vines Studios(He also composes the music).

I also know their are several studios here in NM.

Here's one: http://www.i-25studios.com/home.html

Well, I hope that was helpful. Sorry I don't know any more filmmakers in the area. (I probably know more out of state than in.)
I hope the camera shopping goes well!

Joshua,
Thanks so much for doing that! I appreciate it. :)

One quick question: The 'mini-DV tapes' are just like a regular Hi-8 tape, just smaller, right? And I guess when it says "mini-DV" it's still referring to the same thing? Just figuring out which tapes I'd need to buy.

Ok, I'll try to get in touch with Daniel and Rick. I know Rick a little, but don't think I have ever met Daniel.....

I'm ok with out of state film makers, since you don't know very many here.. Guess NM isn't the best place to film or something?? ;) Too dry maybe....

Thanks again!
Sarah

Sarah,
Mini DV tapes are the same idea but different then the Hi-8 tapes. The Mini DV tapes will only work with certain cameras (Including the ones that you have listed).
NM actually is an awesome place for filming, when it's not windy... Wind has been the downfall of many of my videos. Hope you had a fantastic Thanksgiving and will have a Merry Christmas!

Joshua,
Oh, ok! Thanks! I think they are pretty easy to buy (I think), because I might have seen them in Walmart... or maybe not. Who knows. ;)

The wind! Of course! Duh. haha! As I'm sitting here right now listening to it howling around outside. Yeah, I guess that would be a good reason why filmmakers don't like filming here as much. Oh well. They're missing out. ;)

We had a very nice Thanksgiving! I hope you did, too, although I think, after visiting with Mrs. Blodgett that she said y'all celebrated together? Oh, and I got to visit with Daniel a little bit. Not much, but some. :) He is very pleasant.

Merry Christmas to you, too! Stay warm in this freezing weather! :)

Hay, great movie! My brothers and I have watched it three times, and I got my dad to watch it last night. He said you did a really good job on it. My mom also watched it, voluntarily, although she only said it was “nice.” She’s not too enthusiastic about war movies. On a side note, do teenage boys just naturally have that amount of camouflage clothing lying around, or did you have to buy it for the movie. Also, where did you get the caps for the Western troops? Are those airsoft guns in The Picture?

Hello!
I'm glad you all enjoyed it. (I was just the editor, nto the moviemaker, but it most certainly was fun to act/edit.)
The costumes were actually all from Civil Air Patrol. (A bootcamp for young men/wome that trains them for the airforce)
I think each individual purchased their BDUs (uniforms)from different millitary surplus stores in the area. You might want to check the yellow pages for any in your area. You might also want to try thrift shops. That is where we have found all kinds of movie props for really cheap. (Although The Picture had a whopping $0.00 budget) :)
As for the guns, yes, they are airsoft but they kinda cost alot (Not as much as a regular Ak-47 of course).
Be sure to keep an eye on my blog/youtube channel for some new content.
We have two movies expected out sometime this month and the next, plus a feature film is in the works....Thanks for the comment and God Bless!

Can't wait to see more movies on here. The movies that my brothers and I shoot usually have that budget too. Seems to be common among young filmmakers. With us though, all our actors are under thirteen and even my two and a half year old sister acts(you should see her do a death scene), so we don't usually waste money on our films. Good luck with any other movies you make!

Is there anyway to put The Picture on a DVD, so I don't have to load it?

Una Mariah,
If you want to watch it without having to wait for it to buffer, you can download it onto your computer using Youtube Downloader.
http://download.cnet.com/YTD-Video-Downloader/3000-2071_4-10647340.html

(Link above)Instead of being on the internet, the video will be downloaded onto your hardrive. Make sense?
Hope that helps!
